Hot folder printing: auto print PDFs from a folder
Your web shop, warehouse system or any other program saves a PDF to a folder and it prints on the right printer straight away. Nobody has to open or click anything.
This product is not on sale or available for download yet. We are checking whether businesses need it, and its scope may still change.
Where the time goes
Delivery notes, shipping labels and orders need printing as soon as they are created. Opening every PDF and clicking Print is slow and things get missed. A hot folder prints on its own and records whether each document was printed.
What the action should do
- Print PDF, JPG, PNG and TIFF without Acrobat installed
- Choose a printer per folder, including network printers
- Copies, duplex, colour and paper tray
- Fit the page size, such as an A4 PDF onto a 4 × 6 in label
- Print only during working hours, queue files outside them
- Log every printed document and retry on printer errors
Examples
- Shipping labels and delivery notes from a web shop in dispatch
- Work orders and job sheets straight to the workshop printer
- Requests and results in a clinic or laboratory
How the program will work
- Runs in the background as a Windows service, even when nobody is signed in
- For each folder you set a file mask, such as *.pdf, and the actions to run
- Actions can be chained, for example convert to PDF/A, sign and send by e-mail
- Processed files are moved to an archive, failed ones are set aside with an error description
- Files are processed on your computer or network and are not uploaded anywhere unless that is the action’s purpose
Frequently asked questions
Do I need Adobe Acrobat or another PDF viewer?
No. The program is designed to render and print PDFs on its own, without other software.
Does it work with label printers?
Yes, as long as the printer has a Windows driver. The page is scaled to the label size.
Can each folder print on a different printer?
Yes. Every rule has its own printer and settings, for example invoices on a laser printer and labels on a label printer.
